Disney Disconnects Tron 3

It looks like we won't be transported back to the neon grid anytime soon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has pulled the plug on the third installment of the Tron franchise, which would see the return of director Joseph Kosinski, and stars Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund.

No specifics were given for the cancelation, but the disappointing response to Brad Bird's epic sci-fi, Tomorrowland, may have influenced Disney's decision.

Kosinski's 2010 TRON: Legacy had a moderate box-office and critic success, so perhaps the studio reevaluated the property and decided that it was too much of a gamble to take, especially five (production) or six (assuming it would come out in 2016) years later.

There were a few reports that indicated that Tron 3 was going to start shooting later this year in Vancouver, but Disney never confirm them, and the last thing we heard was that the script was still being worked on.

Regardless of the reasons, Tron is a known name, and I'm sure Disney will eventually reboot the property.
